Silent Saturday

Holy Week Reflections 2021

Silent Saturday(1).png

On Saturday of Holy Week, Jesus lay dead in a tomb. This day has often been called Silent Saturday because God seems as if he’s silent, saying nothing. And while that may seem to be true, the greatest message of life is around the corner.

Sometimes, it’s in the silence where God speaks the loudest. God doesn’t shout; he whispers. He calls your name with his still small voice. His mysterious workings in your life lead you to trust in God in all things, not only in that which you can understand with your intellectual capability, but precisely in that which you cannot.

In my own life, I have found that God’s greatest sermons are his silent sermons. Only the Holy Spirit, who leads, guides, and teaches you all things (c.f. John 14:26) will confirm your steps, even when you don’t know which way to go.

On this Silent Saturday, embrace the silence, for in the silence, God is speaking. In the silence, don’t forget: resurrection is around the corner!
